New Independent Organization Will Build on 15 years of Trust-Based Leadership Development

San Francisco, CA. Today the LeadersTrust is thrilled to announce that Sidney Hargro will serve as the organization’s first Executive Director. The LeadersTrust believes that a deep investment in the leadership and organizational capacity of change makers is critical for success. By delivering responsive, long-term, high-touch investment in the people at the heart of organizations, the LeadersTrust unlocks the radical imagination and inherent power of leaders, organizations, and movements to achieve transformative change.

This work began as a core strategy of the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund fifteen years ago to invest deeply in the leadership and organizational capacity of their nonprofit partners. Partnerships with the Packard, Grove, Heising-Simons and Irvine foundations brought the core model to additional movements and organizations. Since it began, the organization has invested over $30 million to support more than 100 social change organizations and their leaders. Sidney’s leadership comes as the LeadersTrust becomes an independent entity fiscally sponsored by the Tides Center.

Linda Wood, the Chair of the LeadersTrust Advisory Board shared: “After an extensive search, we are thrilled to welcome Sidney Hargro as our inaugural Executive Director. His deep experience advancing racial equity in philanthropy and his commitment to lifting up leaders at the heart of social change make him the perfect leader to steward the LeadersTrust as we become an independent organization.”

Since 2017, Sidney has led the Philanthropy Network Greater Philadelphia where he implemented a leadership agenda that created onramps for philanthropic institutions in the region to reimagine their practices to embrace intersectional racial equity, develop trust-based philanthropy principles, and support grassroots and community-led change. He is also a Lecturer in the School of Social Policy and Practice at the University of Pennsylvania and serves on boards including Independence Public Media Foundation, National Art Strategies, World Education Services US/CAN, and United Philanthropy Forum.

“Transformative leaders are the architects and wayfinders for our journey toward racial equity and social change. To pursue an anti-racist, anti-oppressive and ultimately a liberatory future for all, leaders must be well-resourced with the flexible and support necessary to develop and thrive as whole beings,” shares Sidney Hargro. “I am thrilled about the opportunity to join the LeadersTrust team to cultivate and grow the support to make this happen.”

Interviews with Sidney Hargro, Linda Wood, and other members of the LeadersTrust available by request.
